The Art of Transitioning Careers

With the economic downturn and the movement of jobs off shore, I have noticed that more people are transitioning careers and in most cases it has been involuntarily. One industry that has been severely hit these days is the mortgage industry.

Wouldn't it be nice to hear how people have successfully transitioned?

On the show, two guests will talk about their journey. Nancy Salzman of UCI Extension will also join in the discussion.

Sheri Phillips was in the mortgage industry for over 18 years and served in various positions including VP of Underwriting and Operations. She was laid off in September 2007 when the company she was employed with ceased operations due to the mortgage industry crisis.

David Van Waldick had a 20+ year career in the real estate and mortgage industry when he decided to make an extreme career change.

What does “going green” mean to job seekers?

Everything is “going green” these days. Even our US Administration is talking about the “Green Economy”. Most of the new jobs will be based upon the green economy. Do you really know what the Green Economy entails? Do you know the greenest industries? Do you know what people can do to enhance the chances of getting hired by a green employer?

Carol McClelland, a Green Careers subject matter expert joins me to discuss this topic. Carol is the author of “Your Dream Careers For Dummies”. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Green Career Central - a one-stop career site to help identify an individual’s green niche, to research green career options, and find one’s place in the green economy.
